Hi - I'm Dr Gareth Enticott, a research fellow at Cardiff University. My research focuses on the geography and sociology of animal health. I'm interested in how farmers, vets, policy makers and conservationists deal with and make sense of animal health on a day to day basis and what this means for the future of animal health and rural places in the UK. I am particularly interested in bovine tuberculosis.

Evaluation in WAG

In 2005 I was asked to work with the Environment, Planning and Countryside Department within the Welsh Assembly Government to help them organise, plan and improve the use of policy evaluation.

International Biosecurity

In 2007 I was awarded a grant by Cardiff University to help develop international research collaboration.

The grant has been used to develop links between Cardiff University and the University of Tasmania's (UTAS) Institute of Agricultural Research.

In 2007 and 2008 I visited UTAS to work with Professor Frank Vanclay. We have been merging my work on animal health with his expertise on agricultural extension. This has led to this conference paper at the Institute of Australian Geographer's annual conference in 2008:

"Scripts in Agriculture: Why farming scripts have policy relevance". With Frank Vanclay, Institute of Australian Geographers annual conference, Hobart, Tasmania, July, 2008.

During these visits I've also developed links with the biosecurity policy team in Tasmania's Department for Primary Industries and Water. I was also lucky enough to visit a sheep farm in the middle of the state.
